Leading the World with Solar PV – Unlocking Indonesia’s Solar PV Potential

Being on the equatorial line, Indonesia has abundant solar energy. From the total potential of 3,294 Gigawatts (GW), 600 Megawatts (MW) of solar energy have been utilized. This indicates that there are still a lot of room for further development in the future by which Indonesia has shown commitment to capitalize on solar energy.

Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has given their permission for the development of rooftop solar power plants (rooftop PLTS) to the PT PLN (Persero). The development project will also have quota with the capacity up to 5,746 megawatts (MW) during the period of 2024-2028.

By 2030, Indonesia also is targeting the addition of 4.68 GW of solar power capacity and aiming to source 51.6% of its added power capacity from renewables sources under a new national master plan.

To achieve this ambition, Indonesia requires reliable supply of high-quality solar PV modules going forward. Localization of solar PV value chain is essential to secure access to the high-quality solar PV modules in the long term. As such, solar PV localization is projected to bring in investment worth more than USD 5 billion to USD 10 billion to Indonesia by 2035.

By 2060, solar energy is projected to dominate Indonesia’s energy landscape, accounting for over 60% of the nation’s total energy generation. The significant potential of solar power proves to be the most promising renewables energy for Indonesia to achieve Net Zero Emission by 2060.

ASEAN’s Largest Trade Show for Solar PV and Energy Storage

Based on the success of Solartech Indonesia 2026, which drew more than 780 exhibitors and 18,000 visitors from over 40 countries, the event has cemented its place as ASEAN’s largest trade show for solar PV and energy storage. Building on this achievement, GEM Indonesia will host Solartech Indonesia 2027 on an even larger scale.

Solartech Indonesia 2027 will take place from April 21-23, 2027 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, and will be held concurrently with several other trade shows, including Battery & Energy Storage Indonesia 2027, Smart Energy Indonesia 2027, INALIGHT 2027, Cable & Wire Indonesia 2027, and Smart Home+City Indonesia 2027.

Solartech Indonesia 2027 is the perfect place to find solutions for the evolving solar PV and energy storage sectors. This exhibition is projected to present +1,000 exhibitors and attract +35,000 trade and professional visitors in 3 days, offering a great opportunity for PV professionals to connect with key industry figures, engage with prospective clients, and gain access to the latest industry insights.
